Abstract

The expected disappearance of the physical library at the academy is motivating librarians to assume new roles and develop new services, such as CRAI (resource center for learning and research), or information commons. CRAIs seek to overcome wishful thinking and lack of training with protocols and quality products such as CRIS, tools for the evaluation of the scientific production of the institution. Some authors criticize the lack of transparency of many CRIS products, which are private and not user friendly despite the technical quality, as well as the persistence of obsolete bibliometric techniques. In conclusion, the creation of a national super-CRIS is proposed, which should be managed by expert professionals and with political capacities.

Abstract

A few years ago we had, in Spain, various products for evaluating journals that were useful to researchers and to the Spanish accreditation agencies: Aneca and Cneai. Given the number of products, various research groups collaborated to create a single, unified product: Clasificación integrada de revistas científicas (CIRC) (Integrated classification of scientific journals) with the aim of using it with current research information systems (CRIS). The CIRC classification gave each journal a score (A, B, C, D) and was last updated in 2012. EC3metrics is now announcing the launch of a new CIRC version updated for the current situation, while trying to rescue the original intention of the first version that emphasized CRIS integration. This article describes some of the improvements and changes that have been made in the newly updated version.

Abstract

Social and human sciences are underrepresented in the international databases. This imbalance is accentuated when the articles are written in Spanish, making it difficult to carry out an evaluation of the scientific production in the Spanish language. This article provides a brief description of the Dialnet database, and of the tools that have been developed to give greater prominence to the author / researcher, which can greatly alleviate the aforementioned lack of visibility. A proposal is made to create a National CRIS (current research information system) based on the existing information in Spanish universities and in Dialnet. Finally, the upcoming launch is reported of a wizard integrated into a single platform that will provide quantitative and qualitative data about researchers’ publications in any language. The author considers it essential that the important and invaluable collaboration of institutions participating in Dialnet –for fourteen years now- continues, and desirable that new institutions join in this effort.

Abstract

Para analizar el impacto real de Dialnet Métricas en las Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales se muestran los principales indicadores incluidos en el Portal de Producción Científica de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), comparando los datos que se obtienen de ella con los de otras fuentes. Se toman los datos de todas las facultades relacionadas con Humanidades y Ciencias sociales y se profundiza en el caso de Derecho, ya que es la disciplina peor representada en otras bases de datos. La profundización se realiza con los datos de la Facultad, de los departamentos, de los institutos de investigación y de los grupos de investigación ligados al Derecho; además de con el listado de revistas en las que publica, y los datos de los libros publicados por la Facultad. Como contraste se aportan los datos de todos los departamentos de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales y los de las revistas en las que publica (y es citada) la Facultad de Psicología, que se aparta del patrón de la de Derecho.
