Abstract

International audience To sustain the rapidly increasing air traffic demand, the future air traffic management system will rely on a concept, called Trajectory-Based Operations (TBO), that will require aircraft to follow an assigned 4D trajectory (time-constrained trajectory) with high precision. TBO involves separating aircraft via strategic (long-term) trajectory deconfliction rather than the currently-practicing tactical (short-term) conflict resolution. In this context, this chapter presents a strategic trajectory planning approach aiming at minimizing the number of conflicts between aircraft trajectories for a given day. The proposed methodology allocates an alternative departure time, a horizontal flight path, and a flight level to each aircraft at a nation-wide scale.In real-life situations, aircraft may arrive at a given position with some uncertainties on its curvilinear abscissa due to external events. To ensure robustness of the strategic trajectory plan, the aircraft arrival time to any given position will be represented here by a probabilistic distribution over its nominal assigned arrival time.The proposed approach optimizes the 4D trajectory of each aircraft so as to minimize the probability of potential conflicts between trajectories. A hybrid-metaheuristic optimization algorithm has been developed to solve this large-scale mixed-variable optimization problem. The algorithm is implemented and tested with real air traffic data taking into account uncertainty over the French airspace for which a conflict-free and robust 4D trajectory plan is produced. International audience Intelligent vehicles refer currently to vehicles able to drive autonomously or able to provide pertinent information to the driver for safety, assistance and comfort. Cognitive cars are intelligent vehicles with additional capabilities like being able to collaborate with the driver in operating conditions. In this paper, a multi-agent system is used as a “digital butler” that does the interface between the driver and the machine. In order to test this approach, we consider an Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) providing speed warnings when approaching dangerous areas. The system has been tested on an actual use case carried out with an experimental vehicle. Abstract

Day by day the number of vehicles on roads is growing, increasing also the number of accidents, traffic jams and carbon dioxide emissions. For this reason, the European Union has adopted an action plan for improving urban mobility where the public transport is the main key. To present day, solutions as special bus lanes, electrical and hydrogen buses and rail-guided buses have been tested and implemented in several cities as London and Madrid. In this article an automated stopping system for electrical buses is presented. Stopping system have been implemented by the AUTOPIA program on an electric minibus and tested on a private circuit with satisfactory results. Peer Reviewed

Abstract

International audience; — Automated functions for real scenarios have been increasing in last years in the automotive industry. Many research contributions have been done in this field. However, other problems have come to the drivers: When should they (the drivers or the new automated systems) be able to take control of the vehicle? This question has not a simple answer; it de-pends on different conditions, such as: the environment, driver condition, vehicle capabilities, fault tolerance, among others. For this reason, in this work we will analyze the acceptability to the ADAS functions available in the market, and its relation with the different control actions. In this paper a survey on arbitration and control solutions in ADAS is presented. It will allow to create the basis for future development of a generic ADAS control (the lateral and longitudinal behavior), based on the integration of the application request, the driver behavior and driving conditions in the framework of the DESERVE project (DEvelopment platform for Safe and Efficient dRiVE 1 , a ARTEMIS project 2012-2105). The main aim of this work is to allow the development of a new generation of ADAS solutions where the control could be effectively shared between the vehicle and the driver. Different solutions of shared control have been analyzed. A first approach is proposed, based on the presented solutions.

International audience; The significant increment in the number of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in mass-produced cars suggest the idea of autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles driving in roads in a medium-large term. Consequently, a system to allow the communication among this kind of vehicles and manual driven vehicles will have to be used in order to permit the circulation of both of them at the same time. Two communication modes have to be taken into account. First, a vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) to permit the traffic data flow among cars. Second, a vehicle-to-infrastructure communication (V2I) to allow a central station to coordinate the movements of the vehicle in case of a failure in the V2V. In this paper we present an architecture capable of operating either in autonomous vehicles or manual driven vehicles and coordinating their movements based on a V2I communication. Two mass-produced vehicles are used in order to test the behavior of the architecture implementation. Experimental trials to study the response of the system and the information flow have been carried out.

International audience; This paper reviews our most recent contributions in the field of cardiac deformation imaging, which includes a motion estimation framework based on the conservation of the image phase over time and an open pipeline to benchmark algorithms for cardiac strain imaging in 2D and 3D ultrasound. The paper also shows an original evaluation of the proposed motion estimation technique based on the new benchmarking pipeline.

International audience; The most important part of the train's energy is consumed by the traction system. The tractive energy depends mainly on the driving behaviour. Improving driving strategies has great potential to enhance the energy efficiency. This paper presents a speed profile optimization approach based on a genetic algorithm. The objective of the genetic algorithm is to find, for each interstation, the best speed profile which minimizes the energy consumption. The optimized profile takes into account both the physical and the operational constraints such as the maximum allowed travel time, the speed limitations per section and the maximum allowed acceleration and jerk. The fitness function is based on a Random Forest model which is built using on-board measurements. The aim of the model is to estimate accurately the energy consumption corresponding to each speed profile. The initial population of genetic algorithm is mainly composed of the best realistic speed profiles extracted from the collected data. Document type: Conference object

Abstract

Traffic merging in urban environments is one of the main causes of traffic congestion. From the driver's point of view, the difficulty arises along the on-ramp where the merging vehicle's driver has to discern whether he should accelerate or decelerate to enter the main road. In parallel, the drivers of the vehicles already on the major road may have to modify their speeds to permit the entrance of the merging vehicle, thus affecting the traffic flow. This paper presents an approach to merging from a minor to a major road in congested traffic situations. An automated merging system that was developed with two principal goals, i.e., to permit the merging vehicle to sufficiently fluidly enter the major road to avoid congestion on the minor road and to modify the speed of the vehicles already on the main road to minimize the effect on that already congested main road, is described. A fuzzy controller is developed to act on the vehicles' longitudinal control - throttle and brake pedals - following the references set by a decision algorithm. Data from other vehicles are acquired using wireless vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication. A system installed in the infrastructure that is capable of assessing road traffic conditions in real time is responsible for transmitting the data of the vehicles in the surrounding area. Three production vehicles were used in the experimental phase to validate the proposed system at the facilities of the Centro de Automática y Robótica with encouraging results. Peer Reviewed
