The purpose of this paper is to propose a model of damage for steel frame members based on the methods of Continuum Damage Mechanics and the concept of plastic hinge. A set of internal variables that measure the state of damage of the hinges is introduced. Expressions for the stiffness matrix of a damaged frame member and the yield function of a damaged hinge are proposed. An evolution law for the flexural damage of a hinge is identified from experimental results on monotonic tests. The model is verified by the numerical simulation of cyclic tests.
