In ref. we presented a numerical algorithm based on centered Finite Elements with absorbing boundary conditions (which we call DKL, for Discrete Non-Local) for the ship wave resistance problem. As no numerical viscosity is added, this method yields very well defined resistance curves as a function of Froude number and allows calculation of the resistance from a momentum flux balance at the outlet plane. However, due to the nature of the absorbing conditions, the resultant system is non-symmetric and for the factorization. In this work we show how the system can be solved by only factorizing a symmetric matrix with approximately the same band-width of a typical FEM matrix.
