Abstract

Dual-mode transport systems can be regarded as a hybrid of today's road transport system, some elements of the current crop of ITS technologies and personal rapid transit (PRT) systems. In this paper we compare the personal transport characteristics of today's system with an example-the simple platoon advancement (SPA) model-of future ITS deployment, and with PRT systems. Then we present dual-mode systems-for example the rapid urban flexible (RUF) system-as possessing characteristics of the above three systems.
