Currently I am head of Biomedical Department at CIMNE and CIMNE CARDIO-LAB. My main research area is linking computational medical image and finite elements methods to create virtual medical models.

My major challenge is to integrate my knowledge gained on computational medical image and computational methods into robust and fully reliable computer models and "in silico" environments that will help the development and testing of new therapies and better disease prediction and prevention tools, in healthcare.

I am working in the area of Virtual Physiological Human(VPH) looking for new opportunities in the biomedical Sector. I have great experience in national, international R&D projects (H2020, FP7, ITEA, ARTEMIS....) and within private companies.

To date, I have published at least 190 research papers in various renowned worldwide journals & repositories, including three co-authored books that can be seen on Google Scholar. I also advised numerous MSc & Ph.D. students for their research studies and have been invited to examine Theses' and dissertations' final presentations & defense at various universities in Ethiopia, Eastern Africa, University of Rostock, Rostock, Germany, and the Philippines. I have been in academia for over 20 years, teaching courses in the Master's programs of Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering and Management, Highway Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Road and Transport Engineering) in Ethiopia, Eastern Africa, and the Philippines. I am right between Engineering and Software development.
Working at CIMNE since 2004, I have been involved and led research projects in a wide range of fields: harbours & waves, oil & gas drilling, aerodynamics, landslides, agriculture,... I developed a software for free surface flows (www.cimne.com/pfem/) and after that, one for particles (http://www.cimne.com/dem/), but I also found myself developing parts of standard CFD and structural (CSM) codes.
In these years I have become an experienced programmer mainly in Object Oriented languages (C++, Python) and also Matlab. Subversion or Git (preferably the second) are a must for the best team work.
As an Engineer, the goal of each project is my main concern, and software is just a handy tool.
The lectures on Theory of Finite Elements and structures given at the University since 2010 were a good complement to my practical work at CIMNE.

Engineering Master by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). Since 1997 is Coordinator of R&D area in Industrial Processes at the Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). He has coordinated and worked in several research project at autonomic, national and European levels.

His innovation management experience includes the direction of metal R&D Department in COVIT company from 2003 to 2006.

He is Associate Research Professor at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) where he teaches Strenght of Materials and Structural Analysis undergraduate courses (1995 - present).

I hold a bachelor's degree and a Master´s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Uberlândia/UFU (1983 and 1988). I hold also a Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics (1993) and PhD in Engineering (1995) from Brown University. In 2002-2003, I went to Barcelona/Spain for Post-Doctoral stay at CIMNE / Quantech. I was a professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering/UFU from July 1987 to March 2017. I am currently a Volunteer Professor at the Federal University of Uberlândia/UFU. I have experience in Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis on Mechanics of Solid, Elastic and Plastic Bodies, working mainly on the following topics: Simulation of forming processes and contact mechanics, finite elements simulations, stress and strain analysis and biomechanics. I am a member of the CIMNE Classroom Network (Agreement with the International Center for Numerical Methods in Enginery / UPC / Spain) since 2004, and I am the Coordinator of the FEMEC-CIMNE Classroom that houses the activities of this agreement. From June of 2006 to December of 2008 I acted as Director of Intellectual Property and Innovation of UFU. I participated as professor of the Graduation Program in Mechanical Engineering/FEMEC/UFU since 1996.

From September 2010 to April 2013, studied at the Department of Civil Engineering of Northwestern Polytechnical University and received a master's degree in engineering. From 2013 to April 2019, studied at the Department of Engineering Mechanics of Northwestern Polytechnical University, mainly researched the seismic performance of reinforced concrete structures, and obtained a doctorate degree. In 2019, entered the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, and became a lecturer.
