Computer Science Engineer by the Technical University of Catalonia. Advanced Studies Diploma at the Technical University of Catalonia. Nowadays finishing a Ph.D. at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) in the Technical University of Catalonia. Since 2005, technical manager of the R&D department in Information Technology at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). His main research line is integration of simulation and computational predictive models with smart wireless sensor networks. Furthermore, he is in charge of the Web technologies development team in the ICT CIMNE department, with a wide experience in design and implementation of Web platforms for digital content management, online e-learning centers, web portals for civil engineering enterprises and online e-payment, e-commerce and e-business information technologies. Jonathan Colom Cobb recently finished his degree in Marine Engineernig and Naval Architecture (2015) at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). At the present time, he is a research Engineer at CIMNE and is starting his PhD.

During his degree, Jonathan already showed interest in numerical methods and computational science by first working as a scholar at CEHINAV (Canal de Ensayos Hidrodinamicos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Navales, Madrid) and then starting an internship at CIMNE that lasted over a year. Now that he has finished his degree, he is starting his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Julio García Espinosa at CIMNE.

Tdyn is an environment for computational fluid-dynamics (CFD), multi-physics simulation, and fluid-structure interaction calculations, based on the leading stabilized finite element method (FIC-FEM).

Developer of BUSCAMOS project. It is dedicated to generate an autonomous system for traking of submarine objects, combining a robotic submarine and surface vessel.

MSc in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering by the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and PhD in Civil Engineering by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).

Currently, I am full professor of shipbuilding technology at the Higher Technical School of Naval Architects and Offshore Engineers (ETSIN) of the Technical University of Madrid and the Deputy Director of Institutional Relations.

I conduct my research in collaboration with the Model Basin Research Group at ETSIN (CEHINAV) and the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). My research career has focused on developing computational models for fluid-structure interaction analysis and their application to the design and verification of ships, platforms, and marine structures.

I am the author of more than 35 articles published in first-tier international journals, have presented over 80 papers at international conferences, and have participated in more than 25 European or international research projects.

Additionally, I have been the promoter and co-founder of Compass IS, a company specializing in engineering design, and Scipedia, the developer of the platforms Scipedia.com and BIM TeamUp.

I am right between Engineering and Software development.
Working at CIMNE since 2004, I have been involved and led research projects in a wide range of fields: harbours & waves, oil & gas drilling, aerodynamics, landslides, agriculture,... I developed a software for free surface flows (www.cimne.com/pfem/) and after that, one for particles (http://www.cimne.com/dem/), but I also found myself developing parts of standard CFD and structural (CSM) codes.
In these years I have become an experienced programmer mainly in Object Oriented languages (C++, Python) and also Matlab. Subversion or Git (preferably the second) are a must for the best team work.
As an Engineer, the goal of each project is my main concern, and software is just a handy tool.
The lectures on Theory of Finite Elements and structures given at the University since 2010 were a good complement to my practical work at CIMNE.

PhD in Materials Science by BarcelonaTEch and MSc in Physics by the University of Barcelona. I am currently developing my professional career in "COMPASS Ingeniería y Sistemas" where my work is focused on the development and application of computational simulation software to engineering projects, including assessment of innovative civil structures, ocean energy converters and industrial processes. I was the coordinator of the participation of COMPASSIS in the EU project FIBRESHIP. I have published 6 papers in scientific indexed journals and have participated in various R&D projects of national and international scope.
