	<description><![CDATA[<p><span>I graduated with a <strong>BsC in Physics</strong> at the University of Barcelona (UB), and have a <strong>PhD degree in Physics</strong> from the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC). My research interests are Meteorology and Air Polution Modeling.</span></p><p><span>I have held a <strong>Tenure-track position at UPC</strong> (Dept. of Applied Mathematics and Dept. of Physics and Nuclear Engineering), to move later to the private sector, first <strong>as Head of Atmospheric Projects at TYPSA-TECNOMA</strong>, and as a <strong>Freelance consultant in Environmental Engineering</strong> projects (<a href="http://www.ceciliasoriano.com">www.ceciliasoriano.com</a>).</span></p><p><span>Since 2012 I am <strong>Staff Scientist at CIMNE</strong>, where I carry out duties related to <strong>Research Management and Competitive Fundraising</strong>. Reporting directly to the Director and the General manager, my tasks at CIMNE have to do with providing pre-award assistance to researchers to apply for available competitive grants (at the national, EC or international funding level). I identify funding opportunities, help determine eligibility for grants and awards, and collaborate with them in the development of the proposals needed to compete for them. I also oversee budget development, and help prepare any documentation required by a proposal. Additionally, I participate in the negotiation stage (in EC grants) towards signature of the grant agreement, and occasionally I am involved in project management regarding coordination of the consortium and follow up of the project side-by-side with the Principal Investigator.</span></p><p>I am also the coordinator of the UPC UNESCO Chair in Numerical Methods in Engineering.</p><p>.</p>]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[<p>After completing a degree in Civil Engineering in July 1975 at the Technical Univ. of Valencia (Spain), he started postgraduate studies at the Civil Engineering Dept. of Swansea University, Wales, UK. There he completed in June 1976 a Master of Science degree (M.Sc. Thesis on Development of a finite strip method for analysis of bridges and folded plate structures) and later a Ph.D. degree (Dec. 1978) under the supervision of Prof. O. C. Zienkiewicz (Ph. D. Thesis on Plastic flow in metals with special reference to: I) Coupled thermal flow. II) Thin sheet metal forming). His Ph.D. studies were funded by an Alcoa Research Grant from USA.</p><p>In February 1979 he moved to the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain, where he was hired as an Associated Professor on Structural Mechanics at the School of Civil Engineering. He became a Full Professor with tenure on June 1983. From March 1983 to March 1989 he was the Director of the School of Civil Engineering at UPC.&nbsp;</p><p>On March 1987 he founded CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering, www.cimne.com), a research center specialized in the development and application of numerical methods in engineering. From March 1987 to June 2022 he was the Executive Vice-President and Director of CIMNE.</p><p>Has supervised 49 Ph.D. Thesis and 95 Master Thesis . 30 of his former students are now full professors in Universities in Spain (13), USA (4), UK (2) and Latin America (11). He has had a significant impact in the creation of new scientific groups in cooperation with his former students.</p><p>In 1989 he was the founder and first President of the Spanish Association for Numerical Methods in Engineering (SEMNI, www.cimne.upc.es/semni).&nbsp;</p><p>He was one of the founders and first Vice-President (1993-95) of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS, www.eccomas.org)</p><p>His research activities have spread over a range of multidisciplinary fields which he has contributed relevant theories and methods of scientific and industrial relevance.</p><p>The above research lines have been developed in the framework of over 400 RTD projects carried out in cooperation with the main engineering companies in Spain and worldwide. Some 120 of these projects have been developed in the framework of EC programmes.</p><p>In parallel with the RTD activities, Eugenio O&ntilde;ate has organized as chair person 45 international congresses on topics closely related with the above RTD lines. He has written 4 text books and is the editor of 52 books in different topics of Computational Engineering Mechanics. He has worked in several dam and hydraulic projects, as well as in the development of emergency plans and hazard-potential classification of dams (being Mequinenza and Riba-Roja, in the Ebro river, among them). He is working for CIMNE since 2009, where he is the current Project Development Director.<br /><br /><span>He obtained his PhD at the&nbsp;UPC in 2017, qualified as Excellent Cum Laude.&nbsp;It focused on the&nbsp;</span>application of machine learning techniques to dam monitoring data analysis. In this field, he was winner of an International Challenge organized by Verbund, the greatest hydropower company in Austria.</p><p>He has been involved in several research projects in the fields of hydraulics, dam engineering and dam safety. 	<title><![CDATA[Ignasi de-Pouplana]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p style="font-size: 11px; font-style: normal; margin-bottom: 0.28cm; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;">Ignasi de Pouplana Sard&agrave; is a Civil Engineer by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) since 2014. He is also a Master in Structural &amp; Construction Engineering and a Ph.D. in Structural Analysis by the same university since 2015 and 2018, respectively.</span><br style="font-size: 14px;"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;">His research career started in 2012 at the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) when, in the context of the Civil Engineering bachelor thesis, he worked on the implementation and validation of a new code of the Discrete Element Method (DEM). In 2014 he started working on continuum damage mechanics in the field of the Finite Element Method (FEM), and developed a new approach for the failure analysis of quasi-brittle materials by combining non-local damage models with adaptive mesh refinement techniques.</span><br style="font-size: 14px;"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;">He developed the Ph.D. with the research focused on fluid-structure interaction in porous and fractured media. Topics of major interest included: stable analysis of the fluid flux in porous media, fracture of the solid matrix driven by the fluid pressure, and adaptivity of the mesh to propagate fractures in the porous domain by using non-local damage models along with quasi-zero-thickness interface elements.</span><br style="font-size: 14px;"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;">In the last years he has participated at CIMNE in various research projects and contracts with industry applied to different engineering problems, e.g. monitoring of stresses during the construction process of concrete arch dams, optimization of drill bit geometries for Particle Impact Drilling (PID) technology, prediction of the final stress state of metallic pieces during casting processes, quantification of sand production in well completions, and prediction of NO2 concentration in urban areas, to name a few. Such an experience has been accompanied by the publication of more than 10 JCR articles and the supervision of 2 PhD theses.</span><br style="font-size: 14px;"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;">Ignasi is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Strength of Materials and Structural Engineering (RMEE) in UPC, participating in several courses related to structural analysis and strength of materials in the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE).</span><br style="font-size: 14px;"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;">His research is now focused on the extension of the interface elements formulation for different contact applications, and the generalization of the poromechanics solver presented in his PhD thesis for multiphase flows. 	<description><![CDATA[<p>My professional career is being developed mainly in the field of calculation of structures using numerical methods.</p><p><br />
Since November 2011 I work in the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) in Madrid developing research projects in Civil Engineering. The projects focus on the possibilities of using particle methods for the calculation of the behaviour of granular materials, specifically, the Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM) and the Discrete Element Method (DEM).</p><p><br />
During my years at the CIMNE I studied the Master of Numerical Methods in Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and my PhD thesis entitled &quot;Numerical analysis of railway ballast behaviour using the Discrete Element Method&quot;, presented on October 6, 2017, also at the UPC. The thesis, awarded the XVI Talgo Prize for Technological Innovation, was focused on the application of the Discrete Elements Method to the calculation of the behaviour of railway ballast.</p>]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[<p>MSc in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering by the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and PhD in Civil Engineering by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).</p><p>Currently, I am full professor of shipbuilding technology at the Higher Technical School of Naval Architects and Offshore Engineers (ETSIN) of the Technical University of Madrid and the Deputy Director of Institutional Relations.</p><p>I conduct my research in collaboration with the Model Basin Research Group at ETSIN (CEHINAV) and the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). My research career has focused on developing computational models for fluid-structure interaction analysis and their application to the design and verification of ships, platforms, and marine structures.</p><p>I am the author of more than 35 articles published in first-tier international journals, have presented over 80 papers at international conferences, and have participated in more than 25 European or international research projects.</p><p>Additionally, I have been the promoter and co-founder of Compass IS, a company specializing in engineering design, and Scipedia, the developer of the platforms Scipedia.com and BIM TeamUp.</p>]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[<p>Prof. Miguel Cervera is Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (UPC, 1983), Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering (University of Wales, 1986), Dr. Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (UPC, 1988). He was Associate Professor of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis (1988-1999) and is Professor of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis (since 1999) at the Escuela T&eacute;cnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos of Barcelona (UPC). He has been Deputy Director for Infrastructures and Resources (1990-1991), Head of Studies for Civil Engineering (1991-1994), Deputy Director for Academic Coordination (1994-1996), Academic Registrar (1996-1997) and Head of Doctoral Studies (2016- ) at the Escuela T&eacute;cnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos of Barcelona. In 1988 he was one of the founder members of the Spanish Society for Numerical Methods in Engineering (SEMNI) and he has been a member of the Executive Committee of SEMNI since 1996.<br /><br />
In 1998 Prof. Miguel Cervera was co-winner of the <em>Honorable Mention for the Award &quot;City of Barcelona on Technological Research&quot;</em>. In 2012 he won the <em>UPC Board of Trustees Award for Quality Career in University Teaching</em>. Also in 2012, he was awarded <em>the &quot;Jaume Vicens Vives&quot; Medal for Excellence in University Teaching</em> by the Government of Catalonia. In 2016 he received the <em>&quot;IACM Fellows Award&quot;</em>, bestowed by the International Association for Computational Mechanics for a distinguished record of research, accomplishment and publication in areas of Computational Mechanics.<br /><br />
Prof. Miguel Cervera has published 13 books in <em>Mechanics and Strength of Materials</em> and in <em>Structural Mechanics</em>, used as reference textbooks in graduate and post-graduate courses in Engineering and Architecture in universities in Spain, Argentina, Peru, Guatemala and Portugal.<br /><br />
Prof. Miguel Cervera has published 100 research papers in JCR scientific journals, over 180 communications in International Conferences, Congresses and Symposiums and 24 monographs and 9 book chapters in the field of non-linear computational mechanics of solids, with focus on finite element technology, non-linear constitutive modeling, and thermo-mechanical and coupled problems and numerical simulation of construction and production processes.<br /><br />
Prof. Miguel Cervera has participated in 70 national and international research conferences, acting in 47 of them as member of the Scientific or the Organizing Committee. He has also co-organized a number of special invited sessions and has been invited as keynote lecturer in several international conferences, including the <em>IV World Congress on Computational Mechanics </em>(1998). He also acts regularly as referee for 37 international scientific journals and has been co-editor of a special issue of the <em>International Journal of Plasticity</em> on Numerical Simulation of Forming Processes (2001). He is member of the Editorial Board of the <em>&quot;Revista Internacional de M&eacute;todos Num&eacute;ricos para C&aacute;lculo y Dise&ntilde;o en Ingenier&iacute;a&quot;</em>, <em>&quot;Advances in Industrial Engineering and Management&quot;, &ldquo;Metals&rdquo; </em>and<em> &ldquo;Frontiers in Built Environment (Computational Methods in Structural Engineering)&rdquo;.</em><br /><br />
Prof. Miguel Cervera has participated in numerous financed research projects, most of them related to the application of Finite Elements Methods to the development of tools for Computer Aided Engineering, with focus on the industrial applications of thermo-mechanical processes with phase change and chemical interactions.
